This architect from Bologna fell in love with the baroque south-east of Sicily: "Modica has this curved, winding, elegant look, bringing together the lower and upper cities. The activity in the city centre is still very much alive, the sweetness of life, the climate have conquered me. A welcoming city, giving the desire to reconnect with ones Mediterranean roots".
He decided to move there and re-invented three homes under the name Anime a Sud.
Today Luca shares his life between Rome and Sicily.
Casa Kimiyà and Residenza Hortus are located in the centre of Modica Alta (the upper town), just steps from the Duomo. The baroque setting and peaceful alleys immediately fascinate.
Casa Kimiyà will be chosen for its panoramic view. On the city heights, the ground level offers a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, a fully equipped kitchen overlooking a large balcony. This will be your first vantage point basking in the light. Art works signed by the owner come alongside portraits of artists, poems, a library, local ceramics, a selection of wines...Upstairs, a second bedroom, bathroom, but above all, a superb terrace, with a table and sofa. Aromatic plants add a perfect note to senses already well awakened.In the evening, the lights give the appearance of a nativity scene which invite contemplation, while hearing the sound of bells… Romantic artist studio atmosphere. Love at first sight!
The second house, Residenza Hortus is distinguished by its large area and outdoor spaces. No panoramic view but a direct proximity to the beautiful Cathedral of San Giorgio, a masterpiece of the Sicilian Baroque overlooking the city. Hortus consists of 3 rooms, with a more contemporary atmosphere.In the shadow of the Duomo, a peaceful flowery courtyard, furnished with designer pieces and... a jacuzzi. Perfect place or relaxing and enjoying nice meals with friends or family.
A third residence, Casa Sabir, has joined the Luca's collection, this time in the heart of Ortigia (Syracuse). It is a completely renovated 19th century apartment overlooking the vibrant city market. From the balconies, you can soak up this unique atmosphere: scents, colors, and a light sea breeze.One morning before going to the beach, stop by Caseificio Borderi, just below Casa Sabir, and have a home made Panino. A full-fledged show and a feast of fresh products!
The common point of these three addresses is a modern and eco-responsible comfort. You quickly feel at home in this decor combining local materials, antique furniture and contemporary design.
Visitors are welcomed like the Famiglia, with local pastries, fruits, chocolate of Modica (speciality of the city).
The hosts of Anime a Sud are also available to organize exclusive tours of the Val di Noto, cooking lessons, wines or olive oil tastings, chocolate tours etc...
