Forno Santa Rita
Sicily. Centre of the island. At the south of Caltanissetta is located the small village of Santa Rita.
Abandoned during many years, a passionate and brave man is giving a new chance not only to the village but also to the territory. Maurizio Spinello, a Santa Rita native, chose to go back there to re-open the bakery in 1999. Newly graduated, he surrounded himself with farmers of the region, and since 2005, decided to re-use former varieties of wheat, stone ground according to old methods , certified organic.Maurizio decided to make a natural leavened bread, produced from Sicilian organic durum wheats, baked in stone, and fed by almond trees wood or by nearby olive trees.A process respectful of nature and the people. Voted best baker of Sicily in 2013, Maurizio diversifies the offer and enriches it of biscuits, pastas, home-made and also sells flours, chickpeas and lentils. Everything is certified organic. The village starts living again and about ten inhabitants work for bakery related activities. Socially invested (in the well-being of the people) Maurizio regularly integrates young people who come from all around the world in order to train them for the various jobs. A shared mutual enrichment. To meet, discover, taste and share !
