La Pigna* ceramic pine cone

Artefacts placed on balconies, windows or terraces everywhere in the Apulia, and particularly in the Salento area. They have the shape of a flower bud, symbol of a new life, prosperity, fertility and immortality. These symbols are associated with religious faith in the traditional culture of Salento. You will find a lot of pigne on the facade of aristocracy palaces, as well as on more modest homes. The owners of these houses often give the ceramists creative freedom to create their family emblem.
