HOTEL IL PELLICANO TUSCANY

There are hotels in the world in which reputation isn’t to be built anymore : everything was written about the Pellicano.

Marcellooo was lucky enough to stay there. Our experience was equal to the myth and that’s why we wanted to share it.

Ninety minutes drive away from Rome airport, the establishement is located on the Mont Argentario peninsula, on the South coast of Tuscany.

A littoral version of Tuscany filled with perfectly aligned cypresses alongside a coastal road with numerous turns that slowly takes you to the sea.

The hotel build its history on this its discreet enclave and unique spezzatura style. An art of living where the efforts remains invisible.

A certain casualness, simple and chic at the same time already thought out by its hosts since the beginnings.

As soon as the 60’s, glamour invited itself to the Pellicano. First, it was the property of a English-American family who hosted their jet-setters friends, Hollywood actors, financials and their friend’s friends…

An address shared with happy few that appreciated a relaxed atmosphere in full privacy.

In 1979 the residence was bought by the Scìo Family and is now managed by their daughter Marie-Louise.

The large Family House becomes a Mediterranean-inspired 1852 bedrooms boutique hotel. Almost every room has a sea view, balcony or terrace spread out between the main house and nearby dependences.

Keen on decoration and fashion, Marie-Louise gave a more trendy and contemporary style but still made sure she preserved the establishment’s soul, still in full casualness, per favore* please.

Don’t be fooled by the atmosphere, the Pellicano way of life would not have become iconic without the multitude of services that it offers, its thoughtful staff and its preserved environnement.

Randomly : a pool on a hillside terrace surrounded by white parasols overlooking the creek #sunsetlovers. Accessible way below through one hundred small steps (you have to work for it !) or via an elevator, a private bay with many pontoons hanging from the grey granit stones. Beach restaurant.

The gardens breathe the Mediterranean air while the gigantic bougainvilleas, ivies, or rosemaries wrap up the buildings.

Spa, gym and tennis are available.

Attend a unique mixology class with the head bartender Federico. A captivating character who isn’t short of fascinating stories !

You’ll be so well surrounded and settled that it might be be difficult to leave this refuge. Nevertheless you’ll appreciate a cocktail* aperitivo in the elegant sea village of Porto Ercole, 15 minutes drive away.

  • A little bit further at the peninsula’s entrance, surrounded by a lagoon classified as a nature reserve, we’ll visit the historically rich walled town of Orbetello.

  • Do not miss the beautiful medieval village of Capalbio 40 minutes away. And in the middle of the sumptuous olive trees is located Niki St Phalle’s Tarot Gardens.

  • One hour drive away, we go to visit Tuscan lands and their gentle slopes for full day. The village of Pitigliano is hung on the cliffs and is also called « The Little Jerusalem » for its strong jewish influences.

  • A little bit further are the Thermes di Saturnia and their open skies basins.

On the road back to Rome, we stop in the family’s second property, the Posta Vecchia. An historical Roman era residence which became Renaissance Villa and then property of an American billionaire before being bought up by Roberto Scìo.

The time of an escape, Marcellooo is already dreaming of its next stay on the Italian coast. Why couldn’t we not complete the Pellicano Collection by the family’s last born ? The elegant Mezzatorre on the island of Ischia in Napoli’s gulf… #vacanzeitaliane #italianholidays
