This is the story about a virtual encounter that turns into reality.
It is through social media that Marcellooo discovered the Rifugio Lanzagallo, in Modica. After some "likes", comments, private messages and then an exchange of numbers: It soon became serious between us.
Then came the time of the first meeting. While in the south-eastern baroque of Sicily for a weekend, Daniela invited us to discover her refuge, located in the place called of Lanzagallo. And what a refuge!
A haven of peace, in the countryside of Modica.
There are fields as far as the eye can see, the sea as a backdrop and far away, the south-eastern tip of the island. The air is clean and the light, soft. On the road, lined with dry stone walls typical of southern Italy, stands the more modern and discreet entrance of the property. We climb a small steep path, her radiant smile and bright eyes welcome us.
Daniela is waiting for us firmly. Kisses, as if we always had known each other. She tells us her story with enthusiasm and a touching sincerity, her Sicilian origins, and about this place that she has decided to renovate for nearly two years.
Trained architect , she is transforming this ancient "Masseria" (farmhouse), combining old stones with a more refined "industrial chic" style and it works beautifully ! Maybe thanks to the last years spent in Bruxelles.
Successful mixture.
Daniela has three spacious residences (each accommodating two to four people) some in duplex, with terrace, garden view and/or sea view. The host products are handcrafted by the owner herself, using natural raw materials.Homemade breakfast is served in the main house. The living room becomes a common place, table d'hôte (or private), library.
Friendliness is at its peak as soon as you enjoy an aperitivo, always in excellent company. The Rifugio’s environment, in the middle of nature, is amazingly inspiring and relaxing. An almost protective feeling, at the image of the many ferules surrounding the house. In ancient times, people thought that this tall and sturdy plant carried fire, that it was used for magical purposes and was feared.
But here, nothing to fear, and a lot to enjoy, an hectare of gardens including a vegetable garden with multiple scents, and a swimming pool enjoying a panoramic view of the sea.
You can even privatize the spaces for an outdoor event, yoga stay, or dance classes...If you are craving for leisure and discovery, the region is full of possibilities: a few minutes' drive from the beaches with clear waters (San Lorenzo- Vendicari Reserve, Sampieri...) and the rich historical heritage of Val di Noto.
A refuge in the noble sense of the term, to find oneself, disconnect and enjoy una vita semplice* simple life.
